Story Highlights
This seasonal twist on an Old Fashioned is infused with the winter favorites orange & cranberry. It's the perfect fireside sipper to enjoy with your fire pit or outdoor fireplace on a winter afternoon or evening. It can also be equally enjoyed indoors when the weather outside is frightful!
2 oz. Whiskey
½ oz. Rich Cranberry & Orange syrup
3-4 dashes aromatic bitters (Like Angostura or Jack Rudy)
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass
Add ice and stir until you reach around 25% dilution (about 20 seconds or so depending on the size of your ice).
Strain over a large cube or sphere in an old-fashioned glass.
Garnish with the candied cranberries from your syrup and an orange wedge.
Peels from 3 oranges
2 cups of fresh cranberries
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
In a container with a lid, add the orange peels, cranberries, and sugar.
Muddle the cranberries to pop them open a little and allow the sugar to extract the oils from the orange and the juices from the cranberries overnight.
After 24 hours take the mixture and put it in a small saucepan, and add the water.
Heat it gently for a few minutes to dissolve the sugar and allow the cranberries to open a bit more, do not bring it to a boil so you can preserve the fresh cranberry flavor.
Strain the syrup through a fine sieve, pressing the cranberries to extract all the juice as much as possible.
Store in a food-safe container for up to 1 month.
