Infinity Edge Retreat in Chesterfield
Project Synopsis
This breathtaking backyard transformation in Chesterfield features a custom gunite infinity edge pool that blends high-end engineering with timeless design. Every element of the project was meticulously planned to balance visual beauty, technical precision, and everyday usability.
The centerpiece of the design is a fully engineered infinity edge pool, complete with a hidden automatic cover system. Incorporating an automatic cover into a vanishing edge pool requires custom design and structural integration—here, the cover track was built directly into the backside of the infinity wall, keeping the mechanism entirely out of sight and maintaining the clean, uninterrupted look of the water spilling over the edge.
The pool’s finish is Primera Stone in Sapphire Treasure from Wet Edge Technologies, a polished interior surface that delivers rich blue tones and a smooth, glass-like texture. Complementing the finish is the stunning Sea Glass Cobalto Hexagon tile from NPT, a client-selected feature that adds a subtle touch of artistry and depth to the design.
Surrounding the pool is an expansive Techo-Bloc Blu 60 patio and pool deck in Shale Grey with an Onyx border, a favorite of the Outdoor Dreams team for its clean lines, slip resistance, and refined modern texture. The thermaled bluestone coping with squared edges completes the look—simple, elegant, and timeless.
One of the project’s most innovative details lies beneath the surface: both sides of the pool deck were framed, rebarred, and shot in gunite together with the pool shell, allowing the creation of an integrated equipment cubby (or “equipment cave,” as our team likes to call it). This clever nook conceals all the pool equipment while keeping it close to the pool for maximum efficiency, accessibility, and performance. It’s the kind of behind-the-scenes detail that makes a big difference in how the space functions long-term.
The pool was designed for both recreation and relaxation, featuring a dive-safe well paired with a diving board from SR Smith and a custom water-cooled handrail that connects directly to the pool’s plumbing system. By circulating water through the rail, it stays cool even on the hottest summer days—ensuring both comfort and safety.
Together, these design choices create a space that’s equal parts engineering and artistry. The infinity edge provides a stunning visual focal point, while the thoughtful craftsmanship—hidden mechanisms, polished finishes, and integrated systems—ensures the space performs as beautifully as it looks.
